The next KE Hub online Triage Workshop will be presented by Tamesis Dock.
Modelling value and reward in hospitality environments
We are a hospitality venue exploring ways to enhance our internal reward systems, with the ambition of generating insights transferable to more critical and regulated sectors. Our objective is to evaluate mathematical and conceptual models suitable for complex systems. Cobb-Douglas Production Function, expected Net Present Value (ENPV), and Entropy are just some examples.
Key challenges we face include:
- Collecting and anonymising meaningful data without disrupting operational flow;
- Clearly defining value and establishing fair, effective methods for distributing rewards;
- Evaluating engagement in primary and peripheral activities, including opportunities like this proposal, as part of team personal development;
- Ensuring accurate representation, managing variance, and validating predominantly subjective data.
We work with relatively small, intermittently collected, context rich data within an open and dynamic environment, prioritising methodologies that integrate seamlessly into daily operations. If our approach continues to generate positive outcomes, it could encourage wider industry adoption, generating significantly larger datasets, enabling machine learning and top-down analytical strategies from this and other sources, that could enhance and complement insights gained from ground-level analysis.
Academic mathematical scientists from KE Hub partner university departments are invited to take part in these workshops. If you would like to attend, please contact your local KE Champion to receive the meeting link or get in touch with the organisers, Lauren Hyndman and Diwei Zhou.
KE Hub Triage Workshops are informal discussion sessions where one B.I.G. Partner presents a challenge they are currently facing, with the aim of determining:
- What, if any, mathematical sciences approaches can be used to address the challenge?
- Who from the mathematical sciences community would like to take on the challenge?
- What mechanisms are most appropriate for driving the challenge forward?
The purpose of these workshops is to allow the B.I.G. Partner to engage directly with academic mathematical scientists to probe the scientific content of their proposed challenge. The environment is relaxed and interactive, and we encourage questions, clarifications and discussions throughout. You can find information on all upcoming and past workshops here.
