ICMS hosts ESGI 171 follow up meeting for Public Health Scotland

27 Sep 2023

Last week, ICMS was pleased to host a follow up meeting to ESGI 171.

Fatumah Atuhaire (University of Southampton), Yubo Zhou Rasmussen (Heriot-Watt University) and Dáire Byrne (University College Dublin) represented their ESGI 171 team by delivering a presentation of the work carried out during the study group to representatives from the challenge holder, Public Health Scotland (PHS).

During the study group, the team were tasked with enhancing the PHS Whole System Model by developing a more robust approach towards predicting the length of stay in hospital for a patient presenting with certain characteristics. They made great progress in just one week, and a full report of the work carried out during the study group will soon be available to read here.

The follow up presentation sparked further discussions within the PHS team about how they can take the work forward.

“It was great to get the help of ICMS to have a follow-up event to the European Study group with Industry. It was a chance for a wider group of people to hear about the project. It also builds upon our connections with academia and will hopefully lead to more projects in the future.”  - Ken Nicholson, PHS

Well done to all involved!

This meeting was also supported by the UK Knowledge Exchange Hub for Mathematical Sciences.
