About:

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE WINNING SCHOOLS

Beeslack High, Clydeview Academy, Grange Academy, Jedburgh Grammar, Kilmarnock Academy, Lasswade High, Lenzie Academy, Mackie Academy, Peebles High

Here is a video to give the winning schools a flavour of what to expect, and for ALL maths enthusiasts to enjoy.

Katie Steckles is a mathematician based in Manchester, who gives talks and workshops and writes about mathematics. She finished her PhD in 2011, and since then has talked about maths at universities, schools events, festivals, on BBC radio and TV, in books and on the internet. Katie will join you virtually via live Zoom video call for an interactive maths workshop, with chances for the students to work together on mathematical problems within the classroom.

Ben Sparks is a mathematician, musician, teacher and performer based in Bath, UK. He gives talks and workshops on various mathematical topics around the world. Ben will join you virtually via a live video call for an interactive Magical Maths workshop, with chances for the students to work together on mathematical problems within the classroom. Magic and maths have gone together for hundreds of years. The reasoning behind many magic effects is inherently mathematical and logical, and mathematical tools can reveal the secrets if you're brave enough to use them.

ICMS stimulates and promotes the mathematical sciences through diverse international workshops & conferences. One of our principal aims is to promote an appreciation of the value, beauty and ubiquity of the mathematical sciences. We are delighted to work with Maths Week Scotland, to offer this exciting opportunity to schools across the country.
