Putting educational research into practice in HE Mathematics and Statistics teaching
29- 30 April 2019
We are very pleased to announce two one-day meetings to support HE mathematics teaching, hosted by the University of Edinburgh.
Day 1: Monday 29th April, 10:00-17:00. Putting educational research into practice in HE Mathematics and Statistics teaching
The purpose of this meeting is to act as a forum for the exchange of experience, ideas and research associated with implementing practice in higher education which arises from previous educational research. The target audience is colleagues who teach undergraduate and postgraduate mathematics, statistics and related courses in HE. We anticipate the outcomes to be a better appreciation of educational research, how this can be used, and greater confidence to implement change in current teaching. Through networking on the day we anticipate an ongoing dialogue between colleagues, particularly junior colleagues, which supports them in evaluating and perhaps changing their own teaching.
Speakers are by invitation only and confirmed speakers include Professor Robert Coe, CEM Durham, Dr Carolina Kuepper Tetzel, University of Dundee, Dr Matthew Inglis, Loughtborough University and Dr George Kinnear, University of Edinburgh.
The programme for the event can be found here
Day 2: Tuesday 30th April, 10:00-17:00. Title: International STACK user group meeting
This meeting is both for experienced STACK users, and colleagues interested in starting to use online assessment in mathematics. Supported by our recent Collaborative Award for Teaching Excellent, the meeting will include a practical workshop for new STACK users, a workshop on adding JSXGraph to STACK questions, and opportunities for contributed talks.
The programme for the International STACK user group meeting can be found here
Both meetings will take place in room G.03 at the Bayes Centre, University of Edinburgh, 47 Potterrow Edinburgh EH8 9BT
These meetings are supported by an Education Grant from the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications (IMA), and it is part of the IMA Higher Education Teaching and Learning Series 2018/19.
