The future of structure-preserving algorithms

This workshop will focus on select core areas of the programme “Geometry compatibility and structure preservation in computational differential equations” running at the Isaac Newton Institute of Mathematical Sciences between July and December 2019. The emphasis will be on new emerging themes and recent advances in the field.

The workshop will cover the following topics:

    Preservation of first integrals and of phase space volume
    Development of space-time compatible discretization methods for symmetric covariant 2-tensors
    PDEs: analysis and computation of geometric equations, nonlocal equations (as e.g. kinetic equations with non-local collision terms)
    Stochastic geometric integrators
    Geometric methods in shape analysis: diffeomeorphic deformation methods in imaging, optimal transport and shapes
    Applications in plasma physics, celestial mechanics, general relativity, weather forecasting, fluid dynamics and quantum mechanics
