Free products of C*-algebras

Abstract

Recent years have seen plenty of progress in understanding C*-algebras arising as reduced free products, including results about ideals (or lack thereof), stable rank, projections and K-theory, infinite projections and exactness. After introducing (or recalling) Voiculescu's notion of freeness and his construction of reduced (amalgamated) free products of C*-algebras, we will make a survey of these results. We also intend to include details of proofs in some special cases.
