ICMS News No 10 * NEW * Many abstracts and preparatory reading lists are available from the timetable page. More will be added as they become available. 15 June 2000 Both meetings are supported by the European Commission (Framework V), and The London Mathematical Society. The goal of the summer school is to give an overview of certain geometric and analytic methods and to emphasize their applicability within the area of inverse problems. The lectures are planned so that roughly one half of them concentrate on the mathematical background material such as differential and integral geometry and boundary control theory of partial differential equations. The other half has its emphasis on inverse problems, demonstrating how the general mathematical theory enters into this applied area. The programme is aimed at 2nd and 3rd-year PhD students and young researchers of postdoctoral level in pure and applied mathematics. The Summer School participants will participate in the three-day conference to be arranged immediately after the school. This conference will bring together some leading experts of the field in inverse problems. Apart from invited talks, a limited time for contributed talks is available.
