| This workshop
will bring together researchers from the fields of infectious epidemiology,
ecology, stochastic modelling, mathematical biology and statistics with an
interest in inference for stochastic models of population processes. Powerful
computational methods such as MCMC and the EM algorithm now allow stochastic
models to be fitted to observations of population processes within a sound
statistical framework. There remains great potential to extend the approach to
new classes of models, to open up new areas of application, and to address
methodological questions such as experimental design for nonlinear stochastic
systems. The proposed workshop will foster the multidisciplinary interactions
necessary to take the field forward effectively and to promote and extend its
impact in epidemiology and ecology. The meeting will be held at ICMS, 14 India Street, Edinburgh. The programme will start on the morning of Tuesday 14 September and finish with lunch on Friday 17 September. See Workshop Arrangements for further details. Numbers are limited to around 40 and attendance will be predominantly by invitation. However, a number of places are reserved specifically for postdoctoral and postgraduate researchers working in the area. Please contact the scientific organisers for further information on opportunities for attendance and available funding.
